Description:

1770A337 MITSUBISHI - Fuel cleaning filter.

Fuel filters fall into two main categories: coarse filters and fine filters.

Coarse filters are designed to remove large particles of pollution from fuel. They are usually installed in the fuel tank or fuel pump.

Fine filters are designed to remove smaller particles such as dust, soot and other impurities from the fuel. They are usually installed in the fuel line before the injectors or intake manifold.

Depending on the design, fuel filters are divided into the following types:

Mesh filters - consist of a metal mesh that traps dirt particles. They are the simplest and cheapest type of fuel filters.

Filters with a paper element - retain dirt particles. They provide more efficient filtration than mesh filters.

Filters with a synthetic element - retain particles of pollution. They provide even more effective filtration than filters with a paper element.

Depending on the location, fuel filters are of the following types:

Immersion filters are installed directly in the fuel tank. They are the simplest and cheapest type of fuel filters.

Line filters are installed in the fuel line. They provide more efficient filtration than submersible filters.

Precipitator filters are installed in the fuel line before the injectors or intake manifold. They provide additional filtration and can be used to collect condensate and water.

The choice of the type of fuel filter depends on the type of engine, the operating conditions of the car and the manufacturer's recommendations.

Additional Information:

One of the most common sources of defects is residual air in the fuel injection system. If this air becomes impure or not released at all, it can quickly cause serious damage. Modern diesel engines are particularly sensitive because the injectors and high pressure pumps run dry for very short periods of time without lubricating diesel fuel. Most engines can be primed by activating the fuel pump.

For example, by turning the ignition on and off several times, using a diagnostic device, or by directly turning on the fuel pump.

Another known method is manual descent. In some vehicles, a hand pump is already built into the fuel system. In others, air must be manually sucked out of the system using a vacuum pump. In general, a new filter should be filled with clean fuel before installation to prevent dry running. Care should also be taken when draining the diesel fuel filter to prevent unwanted air ingress. After loosening the drain screw and draining the water, the screw must be re-tightened to the correct torque. If it is tightened too much, the O-ring can become deformed, causing fuel to leak and air to enter the system.
